Hi all,

I have a pretty large driveway that was covered in about two tonnes of loose gravel.

Over the years it collected a huge amount of general filth so I decided to sweep away all the gravel and use it for backfill behind a garden wall elsewhere. Anyway, I was planning to buy clean fresh gravel to relay on the driveway, but actually I've found, to my suprise, that underneath the gravel is quite a nice driveway.

It's what I think is called "exposed aggregate" but rather than being set into concrete, the pebbles are set into tarmac.

I think it's pretty nice and would love to keep it but the wife wants me to fix some defects that I've unearthed.

Pictures attached.

Can anyone offer some advice please on if this kind of thing is at all fixable without relaying the whole thing (which ain't happening!!).

Some ideas:

1) Use my plumbing blowtorch to heat up the tarmac and push some fresh stones into the defect areas...is this likely to work on ten+ year old tarmac?

2) Buy some clear adhesive and push some clean stones into that? (Perhaps a pot of the resin binder stuff I've seen used in other driveways?)

3) Buy some Watch pourable tarmac and again push stones in.

??

Any thoughts gratefully received....

Tom
