Heat Loss Calc For Heat Only Boiler

2.5kw per radiator is wrong. A heat loss calculation is done by room not radiator.

    Estimating the required boiler Kw

Looks way over sized to me, most uk properties have a heat loss under 10kw. I recommend you do a heat loss calculation on your property and ask the installer for a copy of theirs.

    Drayton Wiser central heating

Not tried them but I can’t see how they can be cost effective at £4 each when I am paying just 55p for a non rechargeable battery which lasts 12-18 months in my Wiser TRV’s. It would take roughly 6-9 years to break even.

Charge to move meter box and Consumer unit

Have you asked the builder? What did they say?

Time for tariff rate change, is it always UTC?

My IHD was always right when I was on SVT but now i am on a tracker tariff it’s always wrong! Cost wise anyway, energy usage is still correct.

    250l UV Tank

Isn’t heating the cylinder to 80c just like heating the house and then opening all the doors and windows. That’s a lot of wasted energy.

    250l UV Tank

You will need a qualified engineer to work on an unvented cylinder. This is not a diy job.

Water2Buy vs Tapworks vs BWT Water softener

Only 17litres of water and 300g of salt are used for regeneration, regeneration only takes 10 minutes and the softener still provides soft water during regeneration, the regeneration is based on water usage rather than at set times, the Minimax comes with a 10 year guarantee, the Minimax is...

Water2Buy vs Tapworks vs BWT Water softener

My advice is don’t buy cheap and buy a decent water softener. I have just replaced a 28 year old Waterside mains powered softener with a Harvey M3 Minimax and it’s great. It is a mains powered metered unit.

To Lag Or Not To Lag

Don't know if it is considered best practice but I would depending on how close they were to each other and the length.

Do I need a separate UFH pump for an ASHP?

Some systems have an additional pump and some rely on the pump in the ASHP, it depends on the overall system design, heat pump rating, flow temperatures, floor coverings, DHW requirement, etc.

What are the best smart thermostats for flats? Nest? Hive? Honeywell?

Smart TRV’s don’t work very well IME, I have Drayton Wiser, but a lot of people swear by them. WB boilers have EMS so you need either WB controls such as Easycontrol or but a Nefit Opentherm to EMS converter and buy an Opentherm control. There are mixed results concerning the Nefit converter so...

    Understanding Towel rail valves

Surely every plumber, that I am aware of, that has installed a towel rail cant have made a mistake. I can count 12 towel rail installations (5 different plumbers) and every one has the same valves at both ends of the rail.
